THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has proposed a substantial tariff revision in the domestic category, especially for those consuming between 1,000-20,000 litres or 0-20 kilolitres(KL) per month.The three slabs, 0-5, 5-10 and 10-20 KL, which were charged separately, have been merged. The proposed minimum tariff for this slab would be Rs. 100, plus Rs. 10 for each additional KL. The present charge is Rs. 20 for 0-5 slab, `20 plus Rs. 4/KL for 5-10 slab and Rs. 40 plus Rs. 5/KL for 10-20 slab. Nearly 70 percentage of the KWA consumers fall in the 0-20 KL slab, the reason why a major revision has been proposed in this category, it is learnt.The proposal to this effect, approved by the KWA Director Board meeting held on September 28, will soon be placed before the state government.The proposed tariff for the 20-30 KL slab is Rs. 200 plus Rs. 14/KL (Rs. 90 plus Rs. 6/KL earlier), for 30-40 KL slab is Rs. 340 plus Rs. 18/KL (earlier Rs. 150 plus Rs. 10/KL), for 40-50 KL is Rs. 520 plus Rs. 25/KL (earlier Rs. 250 plus Rs. 14/KL) and for 50 KL and above it is Rs. 770 plus Rs. 35/KL (earlier Rs. 390 plus Rs. 25/KL). The KWA has proposed only a moderate rate revision for the high-end users. The increase is moderate also in the case of Local Self-Govt Dept as well.
