VTU students go on hunger strike

Students from 60 engineering colleges, that are affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), from all over the state began a hunger strike demanding removal of varsity’s yearback policy.

According to the VTU regulations students are not allowed to the next academic year if they have a backlog of more than four subjects and also the promotion to next semesters is blocked if students have even one subject as backlog in the previous academic year. The students alleged that this system is only followed in VTU and has affected over 30,000 students.

Chethan, a student from the Bangalore Institute of Technology said, “The strike began at 8 am on Thursday and will continue till Friday. We had an appointment with Higher Education Minister CT Ravi, but when we reached his residence, we were told that he was busy. We have an appointment for October 8 again.”
