HYDERABAD: The marathon debate on the no-confidence motion tabled by Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu on farmers' issues in the Assembly, which continued late into the night, turned out to be filled with heavy verbal duelling and background lobbying for support.Naidu said the government defence was far from satisfactory and that the government headed by Kiran Kumar Reddy had failed not only on the agriculture front but on all other fronts as well.He recalled getting 55 lakh tonnes of rice for use under food for work programme during his tenure as the chief minister when the state faced drought."I used to get things done at Delhi by calling them up.But if you go to Delhi, there is no one to listen to you," he said.Earlier when YSRC honorary president Vijayamma began speaking for the first time in the Assembly and turned emotional, there was a change in the atmosphere since all the Congress legislators know her.But when she called upon the MLAs who adored late YS Rajasekhara Reddy to rise above party affiliations and vote against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, the MLAs and ministers pulled themselves together with transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana even hitting out at YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. For more than two hours, in the night, both chief minster N Kiran Kumar Reddy and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu were involved in arguments.Naidu accused Kiran of not doing anything for farmers while the latter said he had done much better than Naidu.Meanwhile MPs KVP Ramachandra Rao, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, ministers Vatti Vasantakumar, P Balaraju and Dokka Manikya Varaprasad were busy lobbying and speaking to many J campers including Dharmana Krishna Das and Balaraju in order to win them over to their side. The chief minister himself spent time with a few other J camp MLAs in his chamber.
