ANGAMALY: The black board and chalk are now history. Viswajyothi CMI Public School in Angamaly now has digital boards known as ‘Smart Boards’ in all the 58 classrooms from LKG to Class XII. The introduction of the new technology is expected to improve the learning experience and the quality of education.    The Smart Board is the latest innovation in interactive learning. “The digital board which consists of 30,000 modules stimulates positive participation and improves the learning environment of the students,” said principal Fr Varghese Kachappally. Viswajyothi, a senior secondary school affiliated to CBSE, gives all its students access to the most modern electronic technology. The interactive electronic board is easy to handle. The Smart Board also makes teaching the most impressive and enjoyable process. The research conducted in this area revealed that the children responded more to colours. So now students wait eagerly for the smart class to enjoy their colourful learning experience. The school authorities say they have noticed several positive changes in the students after the introduction of the boards.  “The students showed increased motivation. They enjoy interactive learning and the teaching methods here are flexible. The classrooms are always active and lively irrespective of the subjects taught. Students are fully involved in the process,” said vice principal Fr Sebastian Autokkaran. The teachers are more benefited as they now have ample opportunities for the application of multimedia resources and internet facilities in classrooms. The teachers and students now show more aptitude towards rethinking and innovative methods. It also gives space for imaginative thinking which can be saved and updated. The users of digital boards say they are most reliable and easy to use. “The parents are also happy with the fact the school is providing modern technologies like Smart Boards in all classrooms,” PTA president Jose Kanichayi said. “The students will be more confident and well equipped to meet the challenges of the modern world,” PTA vice president E P Jayachandran added.
