newVisakhapatnam artist Moka Vijay Kumar has created a portrait of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant with millets. The artist took inspiration from their pre-wedding reception and decided to gift the couple his creation. He got the idea of the millet portrait after watching the videos of their first pre-wedding ceremony, which took place in Jamnagar. Celebrities from all around the world attended the occasion. Their second pre-wedding event will be held on a luxury cruise from May 28 to 30. The artist is expected to give this millet portrait to Anant Ambari soon. Moka Vijay Kumar spent about ten days creating a unique and rare gift for the couple. To date, he has created 270 millet portraits, featuring national and international politicians, festivals, and notable events such as the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. His fascination with millet paintings began after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for increased millet consumption in 2023.
His portfolio also includes portraits of agricultural ministers from 38 countries presented during the G20 Summit in Hyderabad. He also highlighted the farmers’ work for the Prime Ministers of 20 countries, who visited India during the G20 New Delhi Summit.
Vijay Kumar works as a Technician One (TH-I) in the mechanical wing of the Waltair Railway Division on the East Coast Railway. He is one of the only artists in India who makes portraits with Millet. Moka Vijay Kumar’s portraits are not the only definition of art but also underscores the importance of millet.
“I never use colour in portraits, but the portraits become colourful through the different hues of the millets. I start by outlining the image with a pencil on imported watercolour paper, and then meticulously paste the millet grains onto the image. A frame is then constructed to prevent air infiltration after pest control is completed,” said Moka Vijay Kumar in an interview.
