THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sri Swathi Thirunal Government College of Music is to relish the world of music for three days beginning from Wednesday. Exponents in violin would conduct sessions at ‘Symphony of Strings 2012’ to be conducted on the sidelines of Sadhana, organised by the department of violin in the college. The programme will be inaugurated by padmabhushan, sangeetha kalanidhi Parur M S Gopalakrishnan. After the inaugural ceremony, the guest of honour Transport Minister V S Sivakumar will honour padmabhushan M S Gopalakrishnan. Parur M S Gopalakrishnan will honour Prof M Subramania Sarma. The lecture demonstrations will begin with Parur M S Gopalakrishnan conducting a session on the ‘Origin and Evolution of Violin Methodology on Practice, fingering and Bowing techniques’ at 11 am on the first day. At 2 pm, a lecture demonstration on ‘spectrum of music double violin’ would be delivered by Neyveli S Radhakrishna. The interactive session at 5.45 pm, will have Chitravina N Ravikiran’s performance of Chitravina along with Edappally Ajithkumar playing violin, Nanjil A R Arul, mridangam and Udupi Sridhar, ghatom. Playback singer G Venugopal will be the guest of honour. Day two will open with the lecture demonstration on ‘vocal style on strings’ by Chitravina N Ravikiran at 10 am. M A Baby MLA, will be the guest of honour. At 2 pm, the second session will be led by Sriram Parasuram, on the topic ‘ubiquitous violin Indian and Western’ followed by the interactive Carnatic-Hindustani violin concert having Vypin Satheesh at mridangam, Mahesh Mani at tabla and Kottayam Unnikrishnan at ghatom. For the session, Excise and Ports Minister K Babu, will be the guest of honour. The interactive concert at 5.45 pm will see Neyveli S Radhakrishna playing double violin, Prof Shertalai S Dinesh at mridangam and Udupi Srikanth at khanjira. On Friday, Ganesh and Kumaresh will expound on ‘why Carnatic music is an instrumental phenomenon?’ at 10 am. The lecture demonstration and interactive violin concert at 2 pm will witness T H Subramaniam delivering the session on ‘techniques in playing varna and kriti in various banis in violin’. Thiruvananthapuram V Raveendran and Thiruvananthapuram V Karthikeyan will play mridangam and ghatom respectively. The programme will conclude with the interactive violin duet concert at 5.45 pm with Ganesh and Kumaresh along with Palakkad Mahesh Kumar at mridangam and Perukaavu P L Sudheer playing ghatom. Sports Minister K B Ganeshkumar will be the guest of honour.
