BARGARH: An eerie silence prevails in Jaipur village near the Gandhamardan hill range under Boden police limits of Padampur block, after a forest guard Narayan Duan was shot dead by the Maoists on Monday.Caught in the crossfire between the security forces and the Maoists, the villagers are in a state of shock and refuse to speak to outsiders. On Monday morning, the bullet-ridden body of Duan was found lying in a pool of blood on the outskirts of the village. As per reports, seven armed Maoists swooped down on the village at around 7 pm on Sunday and took Duan with them to the village outskirts before killing him. Sources said it seemed to be the handiwork of the newly formed Mahasamund-Bargarh Maoist division and in retaliation to the arrest of three of their colleagues on July 25. The three are division commander Anil Kumar alias Azad (25), Rambatai Usendi (20) and Shambati Dubba (20). Eyewitnesses claimed that the Maoists were present near the body till 2 pm. Sources said the inaccessible forests in the Gandhamardan hill range has helped the Maoists develop a corridor which connects the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh and Chhattisgarh. They added that with the Maoists failing in their soft approach, the latter have gone back to their old strategy of terrorising and forcing people to join the outfit.
