Following the killing of two children belonging to a Dalit family in Sunped village, the locals on Wednesday staged protest blocking the Ballabgarh-Faridabad road. The villagers placed the bodies of the two children, who were burned to death, on the road, demanding action against the culprits.

This came after a family of four was set on fire including one child aged one year and the other three years. The children's mother also sustained serious injuries and is in the ICU in Safdarjung hospital.

Their children’s father, who also sustained serious burns, said that he would fight for justice. Meanwhile, the grandmother of the victims told mediapersons that they had been receiving threats for over one week.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Left leader Brinda Karat visited the family in Sunped village.

The Congress leader met the father of the kids and assured all possible help. Facing the ire of the protestors, who even shouted slogans like “Rahul Gandhi go back", the Gandhi scion lashed out at the media for calling his visit a photo opportunity.

"It is insulting to hear that this is a photo opportunity. It is an insult to victim's family and I will continue to visit them. I have told family members that I will help them to best possible extent. The family wants a CBI inquiry. They are poor and that's why this atrocity against them. I've spoken to the family members and all they want to know is what is there fault," said Rahul Gandhi.

The shocking incident occurred at around 2.30 AM on Tuesday at Sunped village on the outskirts of Delhi, police said.

Vaibhav, who was two-and-a-half years old, and his sister, 11-month-old Divya, died after the attackers allegedly poured petrol from the window and set the house ablaze while the family was sleeping inside. A religious programme was being held nearby in the village at that time.

Their mother Rekha, 28, suffered serious burns and has been referred to Delhi for treatment while their father Jitender, 31, too suffered injuries while trying to save his family.
