BANGALORE: Justice Vikramajit Sen was sworn-in as the senior most Judge of the Karnataka High Court on Monday. Outgoing Chief Justice Jagjit Singh Khehar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Sen. Born on December 31, 1950, Justice Sen has practised in all courts in Delhi. He has handled civil, arbitration and commercial disputes and has a special interest in minority rights. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on July 7, 1999 and became a permanent Judge on October 30 in the year 2000.Speaking on the occasion, Justice Sen said, “It is my pleasure to work in the Karnataka High Court. Karnataka has a rich culture. The Bar Council here is good and there are good judges who are elevated from this State to Supreme Court. I am happy to come here. There are terror attacks to Judiciary. I was there when terror attacked the Delhi High Court. Security of the court is the top concern.” Outgoing Chief Justice J S Khehar, expressing concern over the security of the courts, advised the legal fraternity to cooperate with police who are manning the security in the High Court. “Police are there to help you, cooperate with them. If you don’t listen to them, they will not be responsible for if something happens,” he said. Stating that he enjoyed working in the State, he said that he had a rich experience and had fun while dealing with matters related to mining. Justice Khehar said the Karnataka was a change for him and he received good assistance from the legal fraternity here.“Punjab and Haryana was a great experience, Uttarakhand was good, but a small state. Karnataka was a change,” he felt. Praising the bar in Karnataka, he described his work here as a collective effort with great assistance from the legal fraternity here. “Lawyers here have a culture,” he said.
