New Delhi: After their impressive show at the Asian Wrestling Championships at Manila, the Indian wrestling contingent arrived home early on Tuesday morning.
The Indian contingent was given a warm reception at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The wrestlers as well as the officials who had accompanied them were garlanded by avid supporters as they made their way through the airport arrival terminal.
The Indian team finished with a rich haul of 14 medals at the Championship winning five golds, four silvers and five bronzes in the three-day competition.
PTI reports that the Indian grapplers signed off the the Junior Asian Wrestling Championship in style, bagging a gold and a silver on the final day in Manila on July 12, 2009 to finish with an impressive haul of 14 medals.
Rahul Aware won the gold in 55kg freestyle category, while the silver was bagged by Rahul Mann in 60kg division.
Overall, India won five gold, four silver and five bronze medals in the three-day meet, a Wrestling Federation of India release stated.
Apart from Aware, other medal winners in men's freestyle category are Surender (50kg, gold); Joginder Kumar (120kg, gold), Rahul Mann (60kg, silver).
Suresh Yadav (60kg, gold); Manjit (50kg bronze); Manoj (55 Kg, bronze); Rupender (96kg, bronze); Rakesh Hooda (120kg, bronze) are medal winners in the Greco Roman style division.
In the women's freestyle, Navjot Kaur (67kg, gold); Gargi Yadav (55kg, silver); Anmol (72kg, silver); Sakshi Malik (59kg, silver); Anju Chaudhary (51kg, bronze) were the medal winners.
