Verdict in Sudhakaran case on Monday
Verdict in Sudhakaran case on Monday

The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here on Friday posted a batch of petitions against K Sudhakaran’s controversial Kottarakkara speech and contempt of court case to September 10 for pronouncing the verdict.

The court is considering a Public Interest Litigation filed by advocate A K Pramod, contempt of court case by P Nagaraj, Sudhakaran’s plea to transfer the case to another court and staying of proceedings in this court.

Sudhakaran in his controversial speech in Kottarakkara had said that he was witness to a Supreme Court judge taking bribe from the representatives of certain bar owners in the state for getting a favourable verdict in a bar licence case.

The Court had ordered to register a case against Sudhakaran based on a PIL filed by Pramod.

Nagaraj in his contempt of court petition said that Sudhakaran, in his speech at Iritty in Kannur district on August 26, had said that the court should not interfere in issues that did not come under its jurisdiction.

He made this statement in reply to the Judicial First Class Magistrate-III E Ijaz asking him why he was afraid of an investigation.

Sudhakaran in his petition pleaded that the alleged offence was made in Kottarakkara and it did not come under the jurisdiction of this court. Hence, the case should be stayed or transferred from this court.
