CHENNAI: A 57-year-old Village Administrative Officer (VAO) was caught red handed by sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption while accepting a bribe of `2,000, on Wednesday. They also arrested a land broker in Palavakkam in connection with the same case.DVAC officials said when J Loganthan, VAO of Palavakkam, had demanded a bribe of `2,000 from Ram hailing from Anna Nagar, who worked as an architect in Dubai he informed them. The architect had owned six grounds of land in Neelankarai that he wanted to sell and he had allegedly approached the VAO for a field measure sketch when Loganathan allegedly demanded the bribe, police said.A team led by DSP Ponnusamy and three inspectors Uchchapatti Paramsamy, Chellamuthu and Ashokan later nabbed the VAO red handed when Ram was handing over the money to Loganthan in the VAO office located on East Coast Road on Wednesday afternoon. Police said that a land broker Sampath (58) of Neelankarai was also allegedly involved in the offence and that he was also arrested.Supervisor Caught With Stolen CellphonesA supervisor at the Air Cargo Complex was caught red-handed with two stolen Blackberry mobile phones at the airport in Chennai on Wednesday.Mahesh Kumar (23) was recruited by a private agency for the post of supervisor in the import cargo section six months ago, Airport police inspector D Arockia Raveendran told Express. On Wednesday, around 6.45 am, a security guard noticed Kumar walking into the cargo section in a suspicious manner. When the guard checked Kumar’s pockets, he found a Blackberry mobile phone in each of them, the inspector said.Kumar was handed over to the Airport Police. Kumar later told police that he drilled holes into a large pallet carrying cell phones imported from China.
