KOZHIKODE: As the curtain falls on the CPM party congress here on Monday, the million-dollar question is whether V S Achuthanandan will be inducted again into the politburo, the highest forum of the party. Senior leaders from Prakash Karat to Sitaram Yechury are maintaining a studied silence.According to party sources, the most likely candidates for the three PB posts are A K Padmanabhan, CITU president based in Chennai, Subhashini Ali from Uttar Pradesh and Mohammad Salim from West Bengal. There are currently two vacancies in the PB following the removal of Achuthanandan and the death of M K Pandhe.Mohammed Ameen has requested to be relieved from the PB.In case of maintaining Muslim representation, Mohammad Salim would get inducted. If women get the priority, Subhashini Ali will be the choice.Soorayakanth Mishra, West Bengal Opposition Leader, is also a potential candidate. If Padmanabhan is inducted, VS would have to be contended with his central committee membership. At the most, he might get the status of a special invitee. But he is facing stiff resistance from his own colleagues from Kerala. What is giving him hope is the consistent support from Sitaram Yechury, Brinda Karat and Manik Sarkar for his reinduction. In case of more representation for women in the central committee, T N Seema and K K Shylaja stand a chance.Elamaram Kareem, A K Balan, V V Dakshinamurthy are the other likely candidates from Kerala. The new panel of central committee members would be presented at the congress on Monday.
