BHUBANESWAR: Members, cutting across party lines, demanded initiation of measures by the State Government for performing all official works in Odia language. Raising the issue, Naba Kishore Das of the Congress drew the attention of the Speaker to a question posed by him in Odia but was answered in English. Das demanded that answers to questions by the members in Odia should be in Odia. He alleged though the State Government had announced its decision several times for use of Odia language in all official business, this was not implemented so far. He wanted to know when the Government would issue notifications in Odia.Prabhat Biswal (BJD) requested Speaker Pradip Amat to give a ruling in this regard. He also wanted to know when Odia would be used in all official communications.
