The ambush left seven members of UNAMID peacekeeping mission dead.
New Delhi: UN Chief Ban Ki-moon has severely condemned an ambush which left seven members of UN-African Union (UNAMID) peacekeeping mission dead and 22 wounded.
The peacekeepers were ambushed during a routine patrol by around 40 vehicles full of armed militia on Tuesday. The fight continued for over two hours.
The ambush is the worst direct attack on UNAMID forces since it began work on December 31.
Arab militias mobilised by Khartoum in the area have been hostile to the UN troops in fear of indictment by the International Criminal Court for war crimes.
