“The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) are misleading the people on the issue of fuel loading at Koodankulam nuclear power plant,” charged People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) coordinator SP Udayakumar.
Talking to Express, Udayakumar said the NPCIL’s claim that it completed the fuel loading at Unit-1 of Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP), is contradictory to the statement of Atomic Energy Commission Chairman R K Sinha, who said in Mumbai last week, that it would take a few months for the completion of fuel loading and the plant would become operational only next year.
“We do not know who is telling the truth and who is not. There is a purposeful and deliberate attempt to misinform and mislead the country. The DAE and the NPCIL authorities are lying,” he said.
“Irrespective of whatever false information, we will continue to oppose the Koodankulam nuclear power project and nuclear energy generation in this country,” Udayakumar reiterated.
Confirming that he would participate in the October 8 siege protest of the Koodankulam nuclear power plant from the sea, Udayakumar said “If the authorities prevent our struggle, we will not react violently,” he said.
“While Japan could shut down all the 52 nuclear power plants on its soil, we could also do so and hope for a non-nuclear future for India,” he added.
