CHENNAI: A 21-year-old caddie and a senior citizen were hit by trains in two different incidents reported near the Guindy railway station on Saturday. Subburatnam of Narasingapuram, Guindy was crossing the tracks between the Guindy and St Thomas Mount railway stations to get to a library at Alandur, when he was hit by a passing Express train on Saturday evening. The 67-year-old died on the spot shortly after his wife and family, that lived nearby, arrived. Police said the man would usually cross the tracks to go to the library. Meanwhile, people who were on the spot claimed the police had arrived late. They also claimed that increasingly people avoided climbing the bridge above the railway tracks to cross to the other side, choosing, instead, to cross the railway tracks. About an hour after Subburatnam’s death, 21-year-old Manikandan, who worked as a caddie at a golf course was hit by EMU train approaching Chennai Beach from Tambaram around 7 pm. The 21-year-old was hit reportedly just metres away from where Subburatnam died, police said.
