THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reiterating his stand that the treasure trove of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here belonged to the temple alone, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy ridiculed the claim of CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan that the temple’s assets belonged to the public.“Pinarayi Vijayan has no right to claim that the treasure trove belonged to the public,” he said.Chandy told mediapersons after a Cabinet meeting that those engaged in destroying public property had no right to ask for attaching the temple wealth. Regarding the petrol price hike, he said he had already mentioned that his opinion was that the Central Government should not have given up its powers to fix the prices of petroleum products.Referring to the return of the Plachimada Bill by the President and subsequent clarification sought from the Centre, he said there was nothing wrong in the Union Home Ministry calling for some clarification on a Bill passed by the state legislature.“If the Central Government raises some questions about a Bill passed by the state legislature, it cannot be called insult to the legislature,” Chandy said. The package for teachers was in the final stage of preparation, he said. Referring to the crisis over the disposal of waste at Vilappilsala here following protests by locals, Chandy said that the urban affairs ministry was considering proposals to find a permanent solution to waste management. In developed countries, they had technologies to treat the waste and generate power, manure and chemicals. However, no company here had come forward with a proven track record to offer a viable project in this regard.Regarding the church dispute, Chandy said that both factions should come forward to solve the dispute through discussions.
