BANGALORE: Three labourers were killed and ten others were injured, after their open jeep toppled over near Vijayapura road in the Devanahalli Airport Traffic police station limits on Friday morning.The deceased have been identified as Manjunath (27), Vijay (28) and Krishnappa, all residents of Doddathattamangala. The injured were admitted in a nearby hospital for treatment, and they are all residents of Doddathattamangala and Chikkathattamangala.The labourers were going to an estate in Bychapura for gardening and other farm work. The vehicle was reportedly speeding and overtook a lorry and toppled over after the driver tried to avoid hitting a motorcycle rider.After the incident, the villagers staged a protest on the Devanahalli-Vijaypura road. The villagers demanded that speed breakers be erected on the road as several accidents have taken place at that particular spot. The villagers also demanded that the road be widened.Local leaders including Devanahalli MLA K Venkataswamy rushed to the spot and assured compensation to the families of the deceased and the injured. The MLA also assured that provisions for speed breakers will be made on both sides of the road. The Devanahalli traffic police has registered a case and are further investigating.
