BANGALORE: A 10-year-old girl, who was trying to run away from a stray dog that was chasing her, was crushed to death after she was run over by a concrete mixer vehicle on Haralur Main Road near Bellandur Gate in Madivala traffic police station limits, on Sunday morning.
This incident follows two incidents of dog bites in which a two and a half-year-old boy died and a girl suffered injuries in the past two days in the city. Manjamma, was the daughter of Mayappa and Mallamma, who hail from Bellary. The family was working as construction labourers.
According to the police, Manjamma had gone to buy something from a provision store near her house in Haralur. As she was walking a stray dog barked at her and started chasing her. The girl started running to escape from the dog and in the process failed to notice a concrete mixer vehicle coming on the main road. The vehicle hit her and the front wheel ran over her killing her on the spot. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene fearing public wrath, the police said.An electrician near was kidnapped by his acquaintances, who demanded a ransom of Rs 11 lakh from his family members. Financial disputes is allegedly the reason behind the kidnap. Joy (55), a resident of Hongasandra in Madiwala, was kidnapped when he was with his friend Jovis near R V Engineering College. According to the police, while the friends were going one, Emanuel, an acquaintance, came along with three others in a car, kidnapped Joy and sped away. Jovis informed the matter to Joy's son, Jones. He called on his father's mobile phone and a person who answered the call said that his father was abducted and demanded a ransom of Rs 11 lakh for his safe release, the police said.
