Coming from different walks of life are Jithu V K M, Shalom Jacob, Ajay Ashokan and Vinil K K who are looking at striking a chord with their films. These students from director Siby Malayil's media school Neo Film and Broadcasting School, Kochi have finished their first short film 'The Burning Heart', which has been shortlisted in the upcoming short film fest SCRIPT. “The film talks about the ever burning issue of cigarette smoking,” says Jithu, director of the short film.Even before waiting for the results of the competition which is to be announced in coming January, the team has come up with a new short film with a new story. It is named 'Maithribhav'. “The name is of Gujarati origin which means brotherhood,” says Shalom, a sound engineering student. The movie is an attempt to convey that humanity is the most important virtue that one should possess. Men should not fight in the name of religion. In the film, noted character actor Poojappura Ravi plays the role of a religious fanatic. The 15 minute long film tells the tale of this man who at first is reluctant to get into an auto because the driver happens to be a Muslim. He does not step into the auto and gets into another rickshaw driven by a Hindu. Unfortunately this driver is a greedy person and asks for extra money as fare. The Muslim driver meanwhile sees the roadside tiff and helps out the Hindu fanatic. “This film is for the people who flaunt the flag of religion and cast,” says Jithu. The director, Jithu has an interesting story to tell about himself too. At the age of 20, Jithu got a job in KSRTC as a bus conductor. But his passion for films prompted him to leave his job and come and learn about films. “Films have always been my passion. As my situation was not good, I had to take up this job,” says Jithu. His family still does not know that he is in Kochi and that he is here to learn film production. “My family just know that I have come here as part of my job,” he says.
