The executive committee meeting of the AIADMK on Monday dubbed the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) conference as a deceitful drama enacted by DMK president M Karunanidhi who had, long ago, lost competence to speak about the welfare of Lankan Tamils.
“The executive committee of the AIADMK strongly condemns Karunanidhi who looks after only the welfare of his family when in power and when out of power, he pretends to be concerned about the welfare of Lankan Tamils”, a resolution adopted at the meeting said.
Recalling how Karunanidhi, when the ethnic war in Lanka was at its peak in 2009, wound up his few-hour-long fasting unleashing a false propaganda that the war had come to an end, the resolution said, believing Karunanidhi’s words, over 50,000 Lankan Tamils who came out of their hideouts were killed by the Lankan Army. “Karunanidhi, who had kept mum at that critical moment, now claims that the Sri Lankan government had misled him on ending the war. By this remark, Karunanidhi has indirectly admitted that he was responsible for mass killing of Lankan Tamils in 2009,” the resolution said.
Further, when he was in power, Karunanidhi sent a team of MPs to Lanka to shake hands with the war criminals who were responsible for the killing of Tamils there and that the team had claimed everything was fine in Lanka at that time, the resolution said and added that “the very same Karunanidhi, now utters a laughable falsehood that the Lankan government had pushed the life of Tamils into darkness.”
“Karunanidhi had, long ago, lost the locus standi to speak about Lankan Tamils”, the resolution reiterated.
Another resolution asked the Centre to send the Lankan defence personnel being trained in Tamil Nadu and other parts of India back to their country. “The Centre has made its duty to train the Lankan Army personnel which had killed lakhs of Tamils and the Lankan Navy which is killing Tamil Nadu fishermen even now. This attitude of the Centre is tantamount to insulting the people of Tamil Nadu,” the resolution added.
Yet another resolution hailed party general secretary and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for fielding former Lok Sabha Speaker and a tribal Christian PA Sangma for the highest post of the country at a time when Opposition parties at the national level could not decide about a consensus candidate for the post of President.
The resolution said Jayalalithaa had acted as a guidepost for a healthy democracy by fielding Sangma for the top post and made many national and regional parties to vote for him.
The executive committee also adopted 16 resolutions.
A resolution condoled the death of 120 party functionaries during the past eight months and the demise of 10 important personalities —Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, veteran CPM leader N Varadharajan, BJP leader Sukumaran Nambiar, Retired Judge of Madras High Court, MS Abdul Wahab, veteran actors SN Lakshmi and K Shanmugasundari, Bharathanatyam exponent KJ Sarasa, film producer K Rajagopal, former CPM MLA SP Muthukumaran, and Kuchipudi dance expert Vempatti Chinnasatyam.
