The gunbattle between security forces and the militants has come to an end. One militant has been killed, the other arrested.

New Delhi: As the fierce 24-hour encounter between the security forces and the militants in Srinagar's Peak View Hotel comes to an end, one militant is reported to be killed and the other arrested.

The Security forces had stormed into Peak View Hotel in Srinagar's Lal Chowk and began a shootout with local militants on Tuesday morning.

Militants who killed four people and injured 15 on Monday, had been hiding inside the hotel.

Security forces have laid a siege to the area and the entire Lal Chowk market remains cordoned off.

On Monday, militants threw a grenade at a police post and began a gunfight with policemen.

Two militant groups, Al-Mansoorian and Islamic Front, have claimed responsibility for that attack.

Security forces rescued three civilians from a hotel on Tuesday morning before resuming operations to flush out militants from the hotel.

While security forces believe that two militants are still holed up in the area, the Al-Mansoorian militant outfit claimed their members had "returned safely" after the attack.

So far six people, including two CRPF policemen, have been killed and 15 civilains and CRPF have been wounded.
