VIJAYAWADA: Minister for secondary education K Parthasarathi slammed the TDP leaders for staging dharna in front his residence in the name of farmers' issues.He was reacting to the TDP-led protest on Friday in which the party activists poured paddy in front of his residence, blaming the state government for its failure in providing MSP to paddy farmers.Following the TDP allegations that no ministers had visited the paddy market-yards yet to take the stock of the situation, the minister dared TDP leaders including Mylavaram MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao that he was ready to visit any place in the district for farmers' cause.Speaking to newsmen here on Sunday, he said The TDP leaders should extend their co-operation to solve the problems of farmers instead of politicising the issues.He said that the Congress government was committed to welfare of farmers in the state. The government distributed compensations within a month after crop loss due to heavy rains in December last year, said the minister. However, he agreed farmers in the upland area of Krishna district were not getting the minimum support price (MSP) as the rice millers of the twin Godavari districts did not come forward to purchase their produce.Briefing on the paddy procurement, the minister said that about 16,000 metric tonnes of paddy was purchased in the district so far.As many as 39 paddy purchasing centres were opened in the district and the administration was ready to open more centres, if required, he said.The officials were directed to attend the grievances received through the helpline pertaining to paddy MSP with immediate effect. Pedana MLA Jogi Ramesh said that they would not tolerate if the TDP leaders resort to mudslinging on the government for no reason. Chief minister N Kirankumar Reddy also apprised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh 0n the necessity to increase paddy MSP, he said.Vijayawada Central MLA
