NEW DELHI: The Telangana issue rocked Parliament on Monday.As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled, Congress, TDP and TRS members from the region, waving copies of newspapers containing reports of suicides in Telangana, rushed to the well demanding statehood for the region.Speaker Meira Kumar had to adjourn the House till noon with BJP members raising the issue of Army chief’s allegations of bribe.The House witnessed two more adjournments before it was adjourned for the day as MPs from the Telangana region continued to raise the Telangana issue along with other members on Army chief’s allegeations.In the Rajya sabha, the Telangana issue was raised during the zero hour as the House was adjourned during the question hour over Army chief’s allegations.Raising the issue of suicide by a tribal student demanding creation of Telangana state, BJP’s Prakash Javadekar said 609 persons had committed suicide on the issue of Telangana so far.“The government has to show political will to move a bill for creation of Telangana.The NDA will support such a bill,” Javadekar said and accused the government of indulging in “time killing” by constituting committees over the issue.He accused the government of becoming insensitive to Telangana.Embarrassing the ruling party, Congress member from Telangana K Keshav Rao joined the BJP in slamming the “delay” by the Centre in forming a separate Telangana state.Keshav Rao, who is retiring this week, supported the contention of BJP’s Javadekar that suicide after suicide was taking place over the Telangana issue.“It is not one or two that Javadekar is talking about.It is about the 700 people who died there.Give me an instance in history where 700 people died for one cause.Do you want more people to die for this cause? If you want three crore people to die for this, they will die.” Kesava Rao said that none of the former prime ministers had made any commitment on Telangana but Congress president Sonia Gandhi promised it and she should keep it.
