Telangana leaders in the Congress are caught in a cleft stick over the TJAC-sponsored Telangana March on September 30.
The leaders fear that if they do not take part in the march, in which several sections of people in the region are expected to participate, they will be targeted by the Telangana agitators. At the same time, the leaders also apprehend that their party may not take kindly to their participation in the protest march and rubbing shoulders with other separatist forces.
Caught between the devil and the deep sea, Congress leaders from the region have decided to step up pressure on their high command for an announcement that the state will be bifurcated.
Party legislators, who have started a signature campaign requesting AICC president Sonia Gandhi for a speedy decision on according statehood to the Telangana region, have also decided to visit the national capital along with ministers from the region soon after the completion of the monsoon session of the Assembly to persuade their party president.
"We are collecting the signatures of all the MLAs of the party from the Telangana region. We will send the letter to Madam Sonia Gandhi requesting her to take an immediate decision on the issue of state bifurcation," said Congress legislator Bikshamaiah Goud here on Wednesday.
He said that ministers and MLAs of the Congress from the region were holding confabulations among themselves on whether to take part in the Telangana March or not and would arrive at a decision in a day or two.
