HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress leaders K Keshava Rao, Basavaraju Saraiah, R Damodar Reddy and Yadava Reddy met at the residence of panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy here on Sunday and discussed the proposals to be put up before the wide-ranging meeting to be held on Monday.According to sources, the discussion centred on the composition of the core committee for taking quick decisions in taking forward the Telangana movement, involving the people’s organisations which are now under the umbrella of the TJAC, and organising hunger strikes.Though they have resigned, Telangana Congress legislators have realised that the ground is slipping under their feet and are keen to retrieve the lost ground in the region. With the TRS-backed TJAC and the Telugu Desam stealing a march over them, the Congress leaders too are planning to come out with an action programme to draw the attention of the people that they too are fighting for the cause of Telangana.Though they try to justify their delay in implementing any action programme on the ground that they belong to the ruling party and should wait for an opportune time, they apprehend that people might forget their sacrifice before long. The leaders say that since they belong to the ruling party, they had to act responsibly. “If the Centre is planning to deliver Telangana, we should not throw a spanner in the works by embarrassing the party leadership by launching or joining the agitation,” a leader said.Though the Congress leaders met here on Saturday night and discussed the need for an action programme, they had deferred the issue to Monday’s meeting where apart from the contours of the agitation, they want to constitute a core committee to take decisions from time to time on taking the movement forward. What is worrying the Congress leaders is the rousing reception the TDP leaders on the bus yatra are receiving. In fact, the TDP legislators have dealt a pre-emptive blow to the Congress and the TRS by resigning first on July 4. And, without wasting much time, they set out on their bus yatra in Telangana districts. “They are getting a good response. See the way people in Karimnagar received them today,” said one Congress MP.Telangana TDP Forum convener E Dayakara Rao, after watching the reception that the bus yatra is getting, is trying to repair the damage done to the party in the recent past. He has been making it a point to tell the people that they all had resigned at the behest of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu. He wants to underscore the point that not only the TDP Forum but also Naidu is in favour of state’s bifurcation. The Congress leaders, who are watching the developments, are keen on doing something dramatic like hunger strike to win the hearts of the people. This they believe will take away the sheen from the bus yatra and the TJAC’s action programme for the remainder of this month and the next month. The TJAC is organising a strike by Telangana government employees from August 1.
