Taxing days ahead for Tiruchy Mayor

TIRUCHY: A daunting task awaits the Tiruchy Mayor-elect A Jaya, who is to be sworn in on October 25. Her major agenda during her initial days in power would be sorting out the issues related to the newly added wards (61 to 65) attached to the city from the adjacent Pappakurichi, Alathur, Keezhkalkondar Kottai and Tiruverumbur Town panchayats. The residents are worried about a possible rise in various taxes. This apart, the long-pending demand of the city residents is an integrated bus stand, which has been a major poll promise in every election. The existing Chathiram bus stand and Central Bus stand are congested to the core, mainly due to encroachments in the areas. It will be a tough task to for the new Mayor to take on the encroachers.Another daunting tasks are the mosquito menace and lack of drainage facilities and solid waste management. Overflowing drains are visible even near the Central bus stand. City roads, except for a few wards, are full of potholes which pose a threat to the vehicle users during night and monsoon days. Shortage of drinking water is another issue.
