CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has called for nominations for Padma awards for the year 2012.The Padma awards - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri - are among the highest civilian awards of the country. Instituted in 1954, these awards are announced on the Republic Day every year. The awards are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements/service in all fields and disciplines such as art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry etc.The nominations for 2012 in the prescribed pro forma with citation and supporting documents should be sent to the Secretary, Public Department, Secretariat, Chennai 600 009 before August 15, 2011. The eligible nominations will be recommended to the Government of India after scrutiny by a selection committee, an official release here said.
