KOZHIKODE: It is not just the intellectual think-tanks and ‘Mr Clean’ leaders who are attending the ongoing 20th CPM Party Congress in Kozhikode. Some leaders with a tainted background are also the delegates at the Congress. Some of the most controversial names in the West Bengal CPM stronghold have found their way to the 20th CPM Party Congress as delegates.Former Minister and current MLA Susanta Ghosh, who is facing trial in the Garbeta skeleton case appeared at Tagore Centenary Hall for the delegate meetings. He was granted bail in connection with a skeletons recovery case by the Supreme Court in last February. The CPM leader was arrested by the police in August 2011, after they dug up an area near Ghosh’s ancestral house in Benachpara and found several human skeletons buried there. Two of the seven skeletons that were found had DNA match with Trinamool Congress workers who went missing earlier. The MLA was granted bail by the Supreme Court under the condition that he would not visit West Bengal’s West Midnapore district other than his Assembly constituency Garbeta. Susanta Ghosh also has to visit a police station nearest to his residence on the last Sunday of every month.Another CPM Leader Anil Basu, who courted controversies by foul-mouthing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has also reached for the party congress from West Bengal. Anil Basu had not attended the State party congress though he was elected as a delegate from the district conference. The senior CPM leader was one of the 13 leaders who were removed from the state committee of the party at the West Bengal State Congress that took place two months ago.West Bengal CPM spokesperson Mohammed Salim confirmed that both the leaders who have been controversial figures in West Bengal are present at the congress.
