Canara First Grade College principal Prof Satish Bhat, RTI activist Sanjeev Gowda, Socio Cultural Research and Study Centre (SCRC) convenor Prof Prameela also wrote on the post cards.Sanjeev Gowda said due to efforts of Power Minister Shobha Karandlaje, over 211 victims had received compensation. Soon it was found that people in different parts of the district were sufferingfrom mysterious diseases. “I decided to join hands with activist Sreedhar Gowda and filed RTI applications.According to the RTI information, almost 92 villages were exposed to aerial spraying,” he said. Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation (KCDC) had revealed utilising 60,000 litres of endosulfan on cashewplantations spread across four taluks. He informed that till now, over 32,600 post cards had been dispatched to Shettar. “As it is difficult to take care of victims suffering from multiple disabilities, the state government must setup a permanent rehabilitation centre and release pension for life. Couples tying the knot should be screened to prevent the birth of children with multiple disabilities. A district-wide survey to identify victims of endosulfan poisoning is the need of the hour,” he stressed.
