In a startling revelation that has sparked concern across Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, authorities from the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) uncovered a disturbing practice at a local flour mill. During a recent raid, officials discovered over 400 kg of stone powder, identified as alabaster, being illicitly mixed into packets of flour branded as Panchvati Atta. Assistant Commissioner Ajay Jaiswal of the FSDA disclosed that acting on information from senior district officials, they conducted a raid at a flour mill in Aligarh’s industrial area. Our inspection revealed the presence of stone powder in the production process, he said.

The raid, executed on Thursday, July 25, caught mill workers red-handed in the act of adulteration. The adulterated flour was being packaged and sold under the brand name Panchvati Atta. Immediate steps are being taken to recall all affected stock from the market, Jaiswal confirmed. He said that a campaign was being run to recall the entire stock of the flour brand from the market.

The FSDA launched an investigation to ascertain the extent of the adulteration and is preparing to take legal action against those responsible for compromising public health.
