THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has hit a record high of 340 ppm (parts per million), which plays a decisive role in increasing atmospheric temperature, said J Sreenivasan, Professor at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Chairman of Divecha Climate Study Centre. He was delivering the keynote address on the topic ‘Climate change and our Future’ at a workshop jointly organised by Divecha Centre and EduWorld foundation at the Science and Technology Museum here. It is evident that the atmospheric temperature depends on the amount of carbon dioxide and methane. Kerala is highly prone to climate change. There has been tremendous decline in the amount of rain received by the State in the past 50 years, he said. Anil Kulkkarni led the classes on facts and challenges related to icebergs and climate change. Students, teachers and research scholars participated in a discussion led by Prof Sreenivasan on the preventive measures to be taken on climate change. Divecha Centre also distributed prizes to all who won the quiz competition.
