BELLARY: Congress MLC K C Kondaiah ridiculed the ‘failed’ attempts of former minister B Sriramulu to blackmail the BJP and state government to obtain a ministerial berth.Addressing reporters here after party candidate Ramprasad filed his nomination for the Bellary bypoll on Friday, he said the former health minister’s blackmail techniques did not yield result. On Sriramulu’s resignation on grounds of ‘self respect’, he asked, why don’t other party leaders, such as MP J Shanta, Karunakar and Somashekhar Reddy do not follow suit.He said that senior BJP leaders have finally rejected the blackmail tactics of Bellary leaders, and have refused to subscribe to their stand. “The BJP, which won elections in the past with the help of money power would lose this time.Voters are ready to teach them a lesson.”The presence of Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP state president K S Eshwarappa and ministers Govind Karjol, Jagadish Shettar notwithstanding, when party candidate filed his nomination for the bypoll, B S Yeddyurappa was conspicuous by his absence.Even leaders belonging to the Yeddyurappa faction, including Balachandra Jarakiholi, were absent, giving room to the suspicion that all is not well within the BJP.
