HYDERABAD: At last some consolation for scam-accused IAS officer Y Srilakshmi. The Special CBI Court on Friday granted conditional bail to the senior IAS officer. Later, she was released from the Chanchalguda Central Prison.Special CBI magistrate B Naga Maruthi Sharma granted bail to Srilakshmi on furnishing a bond for Rs 25,000 with two sureties. Srilakshmi should be available to the CBI whenever required for the probe. She should not directly or indirectly make any inducement, threat or promise to anyone acquainted with the facts of the case so as to dissuade him from disclosing them to the investigating agency and the court. She should also surrender her passport, if it was not already surrendered. In case, she does not hold a passport, the IAS officer should mention it in an affidavit, the magistrate said, while granting her conditional bail in the illegal minining lease case. When the court granted bail, Srilakshmi’s husband M Gopi Krishna, an IG rank police officer, who came to the court along with his mother, appeared happy. Srilakshmi’s counsel stated in the petition for bail that she deposed before the CBI that she sanctioned mining lease for the Obulapuram Mining Company like a bona fide routine business work after the file was processed and she was in no way connected with the OMC management. Srilakshmi assumed office as industries secretary on May 17, 2006.The state government, in a letter dated November 4, 2005, granted provisional lease of the iron ore mines to the OMC. It also communicated the same to the company on the same day to enable it to get other clearances from the forest and other departments concerned. The provisional grant of lease by the state government to the OMC was one year prior to Srilakshmi becoming industries secretary. In the petition filed by the CBI, its counsel stated that Srilakshmi ‘cheated’ the government in getting lease sanctioned for the OMC after entering into a criminal conspiracy with Gali Janardhan Reddy and VD Rajagopal, former vice-chairman and managing director of APMDC.“Taking into consideration the submission made by Srilakshmi that she was examined by the CBI after her arrest, she is not keeping good health and various other factors, I find that she can be granted conditional bail,” the magistrate said.
