KARIMNAGAR: Classes on spoken English will soon be held in government schools in Karimnagar district to help students face the competitive world and emerge successful. The Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM) will launch the pilot project in 35 government girls’ high schools on July 25. There are 620 government high schools in the district. The RVM officials are trying to identify committed teachers from these schools for proper implementation of the project.Classes on spoken English will be held after completion of school hours i.e., 5-6 pm for students of classes VIII, IX and X.Recently, after the reopening of schools this academic year, Karimnagar district collector Smita Sabharwal made surprise visits to some government  high schools in Huzurabad and Shankarapatnam mandals and interacted with students in English.Finding the students lacked English speaking skills, she directed RVM officials to do the needful.Soon RVM project officer V Ganga Reddy swung into action. He held a workshop in which 12 experts in English teaching prepared a 60-days module to improve English speaking skills of government schools students.Speaking to this paper, the collector said that the project would be extended to other schools after taking feedback from the 35 schools.“The main intention of the programme is to make every student in government schools speak in English and build confidence in them that they can face the world,” she said.Meanwhile, the RVM authorities are planning to conduct a one-day workshop for teachers and explain to them about its implementation.
