Space improvement: IIA to prepare report

KOCHI: The detailed project report (DPR) of the City Space Improvement projects proposed by the Kochi Corporation in its annual budget will be prepared by the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA-Cochin chapter). The decision was taken at a budget implementation committee meeting convened by Mayor Tony  Chammany here on Wednesday.The prime proposal under the City Space Improvement projects  is the remodeling of the  of the stretch between Goshree bridge and KTDC Junction to Model Road. As part of the Model Road concept, the stretch will have designed footpaths and foot overbridges with elevator facilities. Display of  advertisements and hoardings will be restricted and entire service cables will be moved to underground duct. The road will also be equipped with modernised lighting facilities, advanced bus and parking bays. Signage will be allowed only as per the guidelines in the model road.The IIA will also prepare the DPR for the uniform designed footpaths . The preparation of DPRs for the improvement of major junctions including Thevara, Pallimukku, Ravipuram and Thoppumpady and for the renovation of 27 parks in the city will also be entrusted with IIA.The agency will also prepare DPR for the renovation of major libraries like Panayippilly Kochunni Master library and Chullikkal M K Raghavan library. “The entire detailed project reports are expected to be completed within one month and the projects will be executed on a public-private-participation mode,” he said.
