BHADRACHALAM: In a shocking incident, Mettum Subbaiah (50), and his wife Ramulamma (40), were brutally murdered by some unidentified miscreants at Thummala village in Chinturu mandal in the early hours of Wednesday for suspected sorcery.According to villagers, five miscreants wearing masks went to the house of Subbaiah around 3 am. When Subbaiah opened the door, the quintet attacked him with lethal weapons. On hearing the screams of her husband, Ramulamma came to his rescue. The miscreants who beheaded Subbaiah, chopped off Ramulamma’s hands. Their children Srilekha (9) and Venkatesh (4) were at the house of their relative Soyam Ramulamma at the time of attack. Their neighbour P Sriramulu said the miscreants pushed him away when he tried to rescue the couple from the attack. Speaking to Express, Chinturu inspector M Sudhakar said some villagers branded Subbaiah a sorcerer. Three persons who approached him to get their diseases cured, died in the past two months. The kin of the deceased might have committed the double murder, he said.
