BANGALORE: Eastern and North-Eastern parts of Bangalore would get Cauvery water from June when the fourth stage of the Cauvery drinking water project gets completed, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, BWSSB and Urban Development Minister S Suresh Kumar told the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. In response to the question by MLAs Narendra Babu and K G George (both Congress) and S R Vishwanath (BJP), Suresh Kumar admitted that the erstwhile municipal areas such as Mahadevapura and Krishnarajapuram, which are now part of BBMP, were facing drinking water problems which would be solved only after the completion of the second phase of the Cauvery fourth stage water works. “Perhaps, the supply of drinking water to Eastern parts of city would commence in the first week of June,” Suresh Kumar said. Responding to Narendra Babu’s specific question, Suresh Kumar said the BWSSB officials had been directed to work out an action plan to supply drinking water once in two days, instead of once in a fortnight in Mahalakshmi Layout. In response to N A Harris’s question, government quarters in Jeevanbima Nagar did not get drinking water due to laying of pipes, the minister said that the supply was resumed. Suresh Kumar further said steps were being taken to prevent pollution of Tippagondanahalli reservoir by getting cleared an encroachment of the tank bed by an illegal layout.
