New Delhi: Minority Affairs Minister AR Antulay has become an embarrassment for Congress after he linked the killing of Maharashtra's anti-terror squad chief Hemant Karkare in the Mumbai terror attack to the Malegaon blasts investigations in which right-wing Hindu groups were charged.
Sources tell CNN-IBN that Congress president Sonia Gandhi will seek an explanation from Antulay on the statement that has kicked off a row.
Antulay spoke to CNN-IBN's India at 9 on Wednesday night and clarified he had not said that Karkare wasn’t killed by Pakistani terrorists, but concerns remain.
“I am afraid I did not say that Karkare and his colleagues were not killed by the terrorists. My only anguish is that how come instead of going to Taj, Nariman House or Oberoi, why did Karkare go to Cama Hospital where there was nothing (sic),” he said.
Karkare was leading the investigation into the Malegaon blast and was shot dead during the Mumbai terror attacks on November 26.
Karkare had come under attack from Hindu groups for arresting Hindus for the Malegaon blast and was accused of working under political pressure.
At least two Hindu seers and a serving officer have been arrested for the blast, which killed five persons in the communally sensitive Maharashtra town on September 29 last year.
