Congress president Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination papers for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat Wednesday.
The UPA chairperson arrived to a rousing welcome in Rae Bareli along with her son and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.
After a brief 'havan' at a party loyalist's house, she drove to the collector's office to file her nomination. Sonia Gandhi has represented Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha since 2004.
Earlier, beginning from the Fursatganj airstrip, Congress activists and residents showered her with rose petals. Sonia Gandhi waved to the children and women lining both sides of the route to the collectorate.
She briefly stopped at some places to interact with the locals. Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting from Amethi, was behind the wheel.
