London: India's Somdev Devvarman sailed into the second round of Wimbledon Tennis Championships after his German opponent Denis Gremelmayr retired hurt midway through their opening match here.
Somdev was leading 6-4 4-2 when Gremelmayr conceded the match to the Indian.
Somdev will next face Russian Davis Cup stalwart Mikhail Youzhny. The 18th seed defeated Argentine Juan Monaco 4-6 6-2 6-2 4-6 6-4 in his first-round clash.
Somdev's booming serve gave him the advantage as he sent down six aces in the very first set, which lasted 35 minutes.
The Indian didn't concede a single break chance to his rival and converted one of the four he earned to nose ahead.
In the second set as well, Somdev had the upperhand after breaking Gremelmayr, who eventually conceded the match after being on court for just over an hour.
