BANGALORE: Six Ugandan students including three women just drove away their car when the policemen asked them to stop for checking.Even after the police stopped them, they did not think their act would land them in trouble.The six literally took on four cops by snatching their lathis. Now, the six are cooling their heels at Parappana Agrahara central prison.Ronnie, Hussein, Diana, Angela, Mary, all aged 22 years, and Brian (19) have been arrested by Sampigehalli police for attacking the policemen on duty. Brian had come to the city recently to join a course in the city while Hussein is studying Diploma in Civil Engineering.The rest are BCA students at various colleges and all were staying in and around Yelahanka New Town. Assistant Sub Inspector Rajagopal, head constable Vedamurthy, constables Krishnamurthy and Rajashekhar sustained minor injuries in the melee.According to the police, the police were on their routine duty as Nakabandhi was set up near Bellahalli Cross on Hegdenagar Main Road.At around 2 am on Saturday, a Hyundai Accent car (KA- 01-Z-1817) came that way and when the police asked the driver to stop and he just drove away.The police passed on the message to their counterparts.Rajagopal and Krishnamurthy who were on patrolling duty got the message and stopped the car near KNS College on Hegdenagar Main Road, the police said.Though the students stopped the car, they asked the policemen to show their identity cards and allegedly hurled abuses at them. But, when Rajagopal took out his card and was showing it, Ronnie snatched the card and started running.As Rajagopal tried to chase him, the five students started beating Krishnamurthy. By that time, the two cops came in a jeep and when they tried to pacify the students, the students allegedly snatched their lathis and started hitting the policemen and threw alcohol bottles on police, the police explained.“To safeguard themselves and to control the students who were attacking police in an inebriated state, the police were forced to act tough and all the six were arrested,” the police said.Later, they were subjected to medical tests and excessive alcohol substance were found their body systems.The police seized their passports and car.INCIDENTS OF ATTACK ON POLICEMEN■ May 30, 2009: A businessman assaulted a traffic police constable on M G Road when asked by the constable for parking his car in a no-parking zone.■ February 17, 2010: Two Iranian women beat up a traffic police sub-inspector and media persons, after they were caught for drunken driving.■ April 2, 2010: A drunken woman assaulted police in Vasanthanagar, after he questioned her for beating an auto driver.■ February 2, 2011: A speeding biker was tracked by the police with Interceptor near BEL Circle Road.
