Siachen survivor's health deteriorates despite aggressive therapy: Doctors
Doctors have found evidence of pneumonia in both his lungs and CT scans showed evidence of oxygen deprivation in his brain.

New Delhi: The condition of Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad, the soldier rescued from Siachen, has deteriorated despite aggressive therapy, doctors said on Wednesday.

He continues to remain extremely critical with evidence of oxygen deprivation to the brain on CT scan, a medical bulletin issued in the evening said.

There is evidence of pneumonia in both lungs. "His multi-organ dysfunction state continues unabated. His condition has deteriorated despite aggressive therapy and supportive care," it added.

Hanamanthappa was examined by a team of Army Hospital doctors comprising critical care specialists, HoD Dept of Medicine, senior nephrologist, senior neurologist and a panel of experts from AIIMS.

"The entire team was in agreement with the management (of medical problems) that the patient had undergone till now, and concurred with the future plan of management for him," the bulletin said.

He is being treated by a team of intensivists, neurologist, nephrologist, endocrinologist and surgeons. He has been administered fluids, drugs to bring up his blood pressure, besides antibiotics.

Hanamanthappa, who was rescued on Monday from an altitude of 20,500 feet by a team of over 150 soldiers was flown to Delhi in an IAF aircraft, accompanied by a critical care specialists of the force.

He, and nine other soldiers of the Madras Regiment, were struck by an avalanche on February 3 morning. Hanamanthappa survived under 35 feet of snow for more than five days , before he was pulled out.
