SHIMOGA: The fate of outgoing students of Bachelor in Veterinary Science (BVSc) in Shimoga and Hassan Veterinary Colleges is in a state of uncertainty because these outgoing students do not get registration numbers from Karnataka Veterinary Council (KVC), as both colleges failed to get recognition from Indian Veterinary Council (IVC). The Hassan college started its academic activities by 2007 while Shimoga started from September 11, 2006. The first batch comprises 19 students who are going to complete their course by August 2011. But much before the commencement of their last 10th semester, these students should have got registration numbers from KVC confirming them as doctors. The students have made all kinds of efforts for the past two years, pleading their case before former CM B S Yeddyurappa, Minister for Animal Husbandry Revunayak Belamagi, Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, (KVAFSU) professor Suresh, BJP state president K S Eshwarappa and other officials.Confirming the issue, Dean of Shimoga Veterinary College professor M Devaraj told Express that efforts are on to convince both the government and the varsity authorities.Indian Veterinary Council team from Delhi visited Shimoga Veterinary College four times in the past five years. The team has made it clear that the campus suffers from lack of infrastructure facilities and inadequate staff. This was the reason for not getting recognition.Presently, the campus is witnessing construction of buildings and development of infrastructure at an estimated cost of `31 crore. The existing clinical facility would cater to the present number of students. “The college has adopted Tyajyavalli village where our students visit once a week to examine the cattle,” said professor Devaraj. The future of these 19 students is in the doldrums as they cannot get jobs or go for higher studies.Meanwhile, KVAFSU convened an emergency meeting on August 5 and decided to assess final year students of the Veterinary College at Shimoga, Hebbal, and also process provisional degree certificate from there for all the students.
