Indrani Mukherjea's husband and media honcho Peter Mukerjea, who was arrested on Thursday in connection with the Sheen Bora murder case, was produced before a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai on Friday.
This came even as the judicial custody of the accused in the case, Indrani Mukherjea, Sanjeev Khanna and Shyam Rai, were extended till December 3.
According to sources, Peter Mukerjea was arrested following a tip off from Indrani. Mukerjea has been booked for criminal conspiracy.
Sources further said that Peter Mukerjea's arrest came as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) felt that his custodial interrogation was required to probe the financial dealings since he had been making contradictory statements and concealing important information.
The media honcho has been charged for causing disappearance of evidence of offence, and was arrested after Indrani said that he was aware of Sheena's murder.
Sources also said that CBI was not convinced with the statements given by Mukerjea as it found them to be contradictory. Hence, his custodial interrogation is required to verify several points.
On Thursday, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai in a Mumbai court, for abducting and killing her 23-year-old daughter Sheena Bora in 2012.
The latest development came after the forensic report prepared by the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) confirms that the remains found in Raigad forest near Mumbai belongs to Sheena Bora. It also claimed that she was strangled to death.
All the accused were booked on the charges of abduction, murder, destruction of evidence, cheating and forgery. The sleuths also charged Indrani with some provisions of the Information Technology Act for creating a fake social networking ID in her daughter's name to prove that she is alive and studying abroad.
