Shazia lightens the mood of Mumbai
Shazia Mirza, a British-born Muslim comedian, is known for her outspoken humour. She is now here in Mumbai.

Mumbai: She's 5 ft and 4 inches, but Shazia Mirza makes a big first impression, not least because of her unusual profession.

"I'm an unusual person. I do stupid things," said Shazia.

Shazia's stand-up comedy is immensely popular in Europe. Her irreverent humour and her quirky take on the lives of Asians abroad, which has earned her critical acclaim.

But from where Shazia get the source material for your stand-up comedy?

"From my mum and dad. They're like Laurel and Hardy. It's mostly based on the truth," said Shazia.

Shazia, born and raised in England, is touring Mumbai and Pune in her first visit to India. And she is interested in Bollywood too!

"I would love to do a Bollywood film. Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen are beautiful, but they have absolutely no humour. I think I could bring some humour to Bollywood!" said Shazia.

Ask her what her parents think about her success in comedy – and yet again, she refuses to be serious.

"They think no Asian man will ever marry a women who tells jokes. That's what they believe. And I think they're right," said Shazia.

What's your reaction?
