Shahid Kapoor's love affair with 'Mausam'
Shahid Kapoor's love affair with 'Mausam'
The actor says it has been an experience that will happen only once

His voice was thick with emotion as his father, actor-turned-filmmaker Pankaj Kapur nudged him towards the boom mike, to speak to the media about the family's four year-long love affair with Mausam, the Kapur family's first joint-family offering in Bollywood. "It has been quite a journey," emphasises Shahid talking about the two and half years he personally devoted to this film. He adds, "This film has taken four years of my father's life. It is an experience that will happen only once in our lifetime."

Pankaj Kapur who is best known for his performance in films like Raakh and Maqbool decided finally to don the director's hat this time, and the script of Mausam was penned, as he puts it, 'just for Shahid'. Shahid was nervous, as he candidly admits to us, even as he drove from his house to attend the first look of Mausam's theatre trailer in a suburban theatre in Mumbai, today. "My palms were sweaty; this film is more than just a film for all of us."

In between close huddles between Kapur, Shahid, Supriya Pathak (Kapur's wife) and Sonam Kapoor (she plays the female lead in Mausam), the young actor says, "It has indeed been a labour of love."

Mausam revolves around Harinder Singh, an airforce pilot and his lady love Aayat. Their love story not only transcends geographical boundaries but also leaps beyond time zones. The story required Shahid to fly a fighter jet and even sport a moustache which the actor admits was as challenging as the former task. In between laughing out loud, Shahid narrates, "When I started shooting two years ago, my dad told me I was required to grow a moustache. I was extremely iffy about it. However, dad told me every airforce officer has a moustache. It was right for the role..."

Mausam was earlier all set to clash with Ranbir Kapoor's Rockstar and Imran Khan's Mere Brother Ki Dulhan at the boxoffice. However, the D-day has now been pushed back to 16th September. However, the actor is the least bit ruffled by the delay and even adds that he is pretty comfortable with doing only one film a year. Ask him if he feels his rather slow output at the boxoffice might have an adverse effect on his career and he quips, "Different things work for different people. I don't think fast forward." So what is his biggest temptation when it comes to signing a film and pat comes the reply, "My only requirement to sign a film is that it has to be the most exciting thing being offered to me!"
