KOCHI: The Sanathana Dharma Vedi, a confederation of 28 socio-cultural organisations, will picket the campus of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit on September 26 in protest against the abolition of seven study centres of the university.It has been three years since the seven study centres were abolished. The agitation demanding reestablishment of the centres has also completed two years. Adisankara International Study Centre, Sree Gurudeva Study Centre, Inter Religious Study Centre, Agamananda Study Centre on the main campus and Gandhian Study Centre, Payyannur, Ayyamkali Study Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and Chattambi Swamy Study Centre Panmana are the centres which were abolished. This was decided at the syndicate meeting on March 27, 2008. The Sanathana Dharma Vedi, launched its agitation against the abolition of study centres on July 24. The Vedi has so far organised dharna, marches to the university office and VC’s office and a ‘Black Day’. T V Peethambaran, the convener of the Vedi alleged that the university and the syndicate were promoting communalism indirectly by preventing the propagation of teachers and philosophies of social reformers and national leaders.
