HYDERABAD: Sitting in the car, in front of a private school at SR Nagar, Ashok Kumar and his wife Sri Lakshmi were busy cajoling their four-year-old daughter Prasanna, as she refused to go to school. After promising her gifts, Prasanna finally agreed to go to school. Similar scenes were witnessed on Monday, with most schools in the twin cities reopening for the new academic year. It was a tough time for parents of first-timers, who invariably broke down and were reluctant to enter the new place. It took a lot of cajoling and persuading for teachers, school staff and parents to calm down wailing kids. After a two-month break, children wearing new uniforms with heavy bags on their backs were back on the roads. Similarly, many parents chose to drop and pick up children on their own, mostly those of first-timers. While most private schools conducted half-day classes from 9 a.m to 12.30 p.m on the first day, the crowd in government schools and attendance of teachers was thin. Children returned home early because many schools did not conduct all classes.Meanwhile, with schools re-opening, there was a surge in cars and autos on the roads throwing traffic out of gear at many places. Traffic came to a standstill from Khairatabad Junction to Shadan College, as autos and cars parked near the NASR School for Girls blocked smooth movement. Similar was the situation on from SR Nagar police station to Umesh Chandra statue, Abids and Begumpet.
